Discipleship Network of Kentucky: John McClendon and Disciplemaking Cohorts

John McClendon wrote The Disciplemaking Dashboard for pastors and discipleship leaders, including Sunday School and small group directors, who could benefit from a fresh way to evaluate the church’s disciplemaking environment. Leaders will benefit from working through the book and using the Dashboard graphic to assess the environment to determine the need for a tuneup, modification, or rebuild of the environment. Each of the book’s five sections (questions) conclude with two pages of practical diagnostic questions. He will be a speaker for this year’s DNKY annual meeting. At the dinner meeting, a panel discussion about Disciplemaking Cohorts will also be provided.

Disciplemaking Dashboard

In the book, John uses the analogy of a Blue Bird school bus dashboard. The Dashboard is a memorable and helpful visual as you evaluate your disciplemaking culture, environments, facility, space, and organization. What warning lights does your Dashboard reveal? Where do you need to give attention? Come get a copy of his book at the DNKY annual meeting.

Keep in mind that Sunday School and small groups are keep parts of a healthy disciplemaking environment. John calls them Core Groups in his book. One of the most convicting quotes from the book is on page 155. This is the quote:

If the church body doesn’t know the disciplemaking path you desire for them to take, how will they know how to follow?

D5 Disciplemaking Cohorts

What if 2026 was your best year of disciplemaking? Sometimes all it takes to make progress is a little encouragement. In order to help pastors and disciplemaking leaders make progress on their disciplemaking strategies, Cohort Leaders have been trained to work with small groups (3-4) of disciplemaking leaders. These Cohort Leaders were trained with the assistance of John McClendon and Disciple Leaders Network. Each Cohort will meet in person or by Zoom to work through The Disciplemaking Dashboard, identify areas where progress is needed, share ideas, encourage one another, and celebrate progress.

The first D5 Disciplemaking Cohorts will begin in January 2026. They will meet once a month through June. The Cohort Leader will also provide personal contact and encouragement. The cost to participate in a D5 Disciplemaking Cohort is $375. Of the cost, $250 will go to DLN and $125 will go to the trained Cohort Leader. To learn more and register for one of the Cohorts, attend the Discipleship Network of Kentucky on November 10 or contact one of the DNKY officers.

If you have questions, contact me or one of DNKY officers. We are all stewards of the Lord’s sheep and He has given us a world-changing task (make disciples of all nations). There’s no time to waste. Let’s make His command our priority. Make disciples. Be revolutionary!
