A few years back we had some good friends over for supper and we watched professional wrestling on TV. I am not a wrestling fan, but I am intrigued by one particular question, is it real or is it fake? At times it looks fairly real and at times it looks as fake as a bad toupee.
A viewer must admit that even if it is fake (I’m going on record as saying that it’s fake), there are many great athletes in the business along with a few good actors. After the matches were completed and our friends retired for the evening, I began to think about what I had watched. The Lord seemed to say to me that the world looked at our Christianity the same way I looked at wrestling. Like me, they ask, “Is it real or is it fake”?
We can be assured that the wrestling producers and writers know very well what is real and what is fake. The same is true with God! God can easily see through our “act” and determine our sincerity and authenticity.
My prayer is that 28Nineteen will be a place where we can be real, a place where we can journey together, and a place where we can speak with honesty about every aspect of discipleship. I pray that this will be a place where we treat the Lord’s commission once again as The Great Commission.
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” Matthew 28:19 (NIV)
