After I Pray for Disciples, Then What?

God is at work in our world. When our Lord Jesus Christ returned to the right hand of the Father, He sent the Holy Spirit. The Spirit is stirring and drawing people to Him.

So when we pray, we pray knowing that we are not alone. We pray not about whether we should disciple others since Jesus commanded it in Matthew 28:19-20. We pray, instead, for opportunity to join God where He is at work (Experiencing God).

Pray for Disciples…

So after we have been praying (note the continuous action), then what? In my experience, there are usually two options (and they both begin with God):

  1. God will send someone to you. Your prayers will prepare you for someone who will cross your path or someone who will seek you out. God may send someone to you who asks you to disciple them. Or He may send someone to you who needs other help, but being discipled is what God wants you to do.
  2. God will send you to someone. Your prayers may bring someone to mind. If you are unsure, keep praying and observing the individual. God may be placing him/her on your mind because that person is the one you are to disciple. God may be sending you to initiate a face-to-face meeting with the individual to invite him/her to be discipled.

Praying leads to discipling. Discipling leads to praying. Begin praying right now. Keep your eyes and ears open for what God will do in the lives of others and in your own life. Be ready to disciple. Make disciples!
