Dear Brother, you have hit the nail squarely on the head. Churches seem to forget that what we need is born-again disciples, not more church members. It amazes me how people can walk down the aisle, shake the pastor's hand and in less than five minutes be voted into the membership of the church without the thought of going through a new believer's class where the person can be introduced to how the Holy Spirit works in the believer, what baptism symbolizes, and what is involved in church membership. Will Southern Baptists never learn this lesson? Our slothfulness has begun to catch up with us. We are a denomination of over 16 million (please, no bragging), and we have around 30% of our membership really involved in the church. I wish every Southern Baptist would read Thom Rainer's book entitled High Expectations. That is an excellent piece of research that should open our eyes. You're correct, Brother Blackaby, we will never have a Great Commission Resurgence until we first have born-again disciples who hold a close relationship with Jesus. Thanks for your article.

It is biblical, but as you were saying I think the problem is when our goal is church growth first, instead of kingdom growth first. There are times we can focus so much on church growth that we ignore church health and our efforts to reach the lost are hampered when people visit an unhealthy church and find no discipleship in place. On the ... See Moreother hand, as you were saying, we can also be too focused on "in-house" and neglect outreach. I believe the most important thing as it relates to church growth is for the body of Christ to experience Psalm 51 personal revival and then experience church revival, then we can experience biblical church growth. Investing in people is the key to church growth in my opinion. Also the early church as recorded in Acts had "simplicity in heart". They were focused in Jesus and His kingdom and every aspect of their life and fellowship was grounded in that. So, yes it is! I enjoy reading your thoughts by the way! Thankful for you!
